Thai PBS Joins Hands with CU Faculty of Communication Arts To Open News Center

commarts-tpbs-eng           Despite of its headquarters being inundated by the floods, Thai Public Broadcasting Service (Thai PBS) has recently set up the Thai PBS-Chula News Center to retain its broadcasting of reliable news programs during the flood crisis as part of its mission to bolster the media network.
Mr. Thepchai Yong, Managing Director of Thai PBS, said that “With support from our partner, Thai PBS has recently set up the Thai PBS-Chula News Center at the Center of Excellent Digital Media of Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Communication Arts. Our objectives are to operate newscasting programs with more convenience amidst the flooding situation while the quality of all programs is still assured. Besides, by opening the news center at the accessible location, it will be more convenient to guest speakers. The broadcasting programs will start on Monday November 7 with main TV programs on air. Meanwhile, its inundated headquarters on Vibhavadi Rangsit road, Lak Si, still operates normally. ”
“With flooding in many areas of Bangkok including Vibhavadi Rangist road which is the location of Thai PBS head office, we would like to thank Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Communication Arts for its accommodation of facilities that help smooth our operations,” Mr. Thepchai said.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yubol Benjarongkij, Dean of Faculty of Communication Arts, said that with continuous collaboration between Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Communication Arts and Thai PBS, our accommodation will help facilitate Thai PBS’ operations in providing fast and precise news broadcasting to the Thai public.
“At the time being, we must put the first priority on the Thai people and overlook institutional differences through empowering manpower strength and sharing resources. We are confident that our coordination in setting up the news center will not involve any business interests. It also will be a good opportunity for our communication arts student to have a first-hand experience by working with professional journalists from Thai PBS,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yubol Benjarongkij.
The Thai PBS-Chula News Center is located on the first floor of the Center of Excellent Digital Media at the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, Phayathai road, Pathumwan, Bangkok.

"Back Exercises" After Filling Sandbags

philo-eng
With the serious flood situation in Thailand, many volunteer to fill sandbags to fight the floods but doing so for hours a day might take its toll as muscle aches and pains are commonly resulted from working in the same position for too long. To protect yourself from muscle aches and low back pains, here’re useful exercise suggestions from the Physical Therapy Association of Thailand.

philo-1 1. Standing low back stretch: put your hands on your hips and bend backward as far as you can but not force yourself too hard. Return to the upright position and repeat 10 times. You can do this exercise during a break from filling sandbags before resuming your works. (Image from www.backtrainer.com)

           2. Lying back stretch: lie down on your stomach and draw your elbows up to the shoulder level with palms on the floor. Press down on your elbows and palms to raise your torso up. Hold for 5 seconds and lie down on your stomach. Repeat 10 times (Image from www.easyvigour.net.nz).

philo-2

These back stretching techniques are recommended to do at least three times a day until the pains are relieved. Should the pains be more serious, physician consultation is advised.

philo-3 For lifting sandbags, the most important thing is making sure that your back is in the upright position before lifting. If possible, you should pull sandbags with your back up straight. If you cannot avoid lifting sandbags, these back stretching techniques are recommended to do after that.(Image From: www.fitnessgenerator.com/.../backward%20drag.gif )

CU’s Faculty of Pharmacy would like to invite the public to donate money for flood victims.

pharma eng

Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Pharmacy would like to invite the public to donate money as part of the production of immersion foot treatment for flood victims. The Coordination Center for Disaster Victims of the Pharmacy Student’s Union of Chulalongkorn University has launched a project in which current students and alumni help produce immersion foot treatment to be distributed to flood-affected people.
On 7 October 2011, the student union donated 2,000 batches of immersion treatment to the Friends in Need (of “Pa”) Volunteers Foundation under the Thai Red Cross Society. The student union also works in collaboration with the “Num-aey Numjai (Heartfelt)” project during 10 – 19 October 2011 to produce over 180,000 batches of immersion foot treatment and deliver to public and private organizations to be donated to flood victims thereafter.
However, given the vast shortage of immersion foot treatment in many inundated areas, the student union would like to invite the public to make a donation by transfering money to:
